Did you know that Indian filmmaker Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu is considered as the father of Telugu Cinema? Born and raised to be an artist, Venkaiah Naidu has shown an inclination towards art at an early age. Prior to his career of being a filmmaker, Venkaiah was a talented sculptor in his youth. And at the age of 18, Venkaiah started his photography journey and started to see life from many angles. When he turned 22, he embarked on filmmaking and he has become one of the major promoters of Indian films. Interestingly, he only had a camera and a Chrono Megaphone with him when was starting. Yet, he was able to create 12 short films and they were all exhibited in the Victoria Public Hall. He then went around South India to spread his films.

Within three years, he had built Esplanade Ten House and Gaiety Talkies, which was the first Indian-owned cinema in Chennai. He was so dedicated to the film industry that he passed his legacy on to his son, Raghupati Surya Prakash Naidu. He asked his son traveled to London, England and studied cinematography. This father-son tandem gave birth to their own production house called Star of East Films. They were also able to build their own film studio and they named it Glass Studio. Soon enough, the first Telugu movie without dialogue was produced. The Tollywood owes a lot of its success today to Venkaiah Naidu's contributions to the film industry. While Hollywood still reigns to be the highest grossing film industry, Tollywood is also on its way to the top. As of writing, Tollywood is the fifth highest-grossing film industry with an average of 300 films produced per year. With the production of the latest Telugu movies and the presence of different websites to watch Telugu films online, who knows, Tollywood could be the next Hollywood in a few years!
